– Bealey Avenue, Christchurch Central, Canterbury, New Zealand

We live in Bealey Avenue and the day after the September 4th earthquake my daughter who lives in Parklands was bringing our two grand daughters – Kayla aged almost 5 and Talia aged 3 1/2 in to see us. They turned into Bealey Avenue and Amanda was pointing out some of the damage to the two girls. Kayla said “wow”.

Amanda asked which one was she was looking at and Kayla responded “look at the daffodils”. It was Spring and Bealey Avenue daffodils were in full bloom. I hung onto this comment whenever things looked bleak! Really, in spite of all the damage to our home, life is not that bad – it took a very young girl to put things into perspective and look at the bright side of life.
