– Cashel Street, Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand

I was in town with my son at an appointment at 12.30 (22nd February) and we were walking up Cashel Street to home (3 blocks from CBD) and reached home. I lived on first floor of an old (85 Year old) building. I just made a coffee in a coffee cup that I brought of trademe after 4th September and just sat in my recliner and felt a shudder. I stood up and grabbed the window looking out towards the CBD and all hell broke loose.

I yelled at everyone to get out and then was like I was glued to the spot. I moved towards the open door and I was lifted across the room and thrown into a big speaker and then the chimney fell through the roof and the fridge which normally takes two good men to carry was thrown across the other side of the room.

I was in the earthquake on the coast in 1968 and quite in my own way forgot about it. Now some 44 years later it all came back that day and in September.

Putting all that aside this is my home and I am loyal to Canterbury. I am not leaving. Staying until the ship sinks!!

Canterbury is a great place to live work and play and to raise kids.
