– North New Brighton, Canterbury, New Zealand

In the September quake I expected to hear the sound of glass crashing to the floor, but there was none except for a small vase. In February I both saw and heard glass, TV, ornaments, cabinets and everything else that would normally stand upright, come crashing down around me. There was so much that you are paralysed not knowing where to start.

In all the quakes, the neighbours were always there to help and we were there also to give them a hand.

The quakes may tear the land apart, but it joined the people together.
